Protocols like PrivacyPass implement this using protocols like blind RSA signatures, so presumably these operations cost isn’t prohibitive for real-world applications. However, PrivacyPass also includes some speed optimizations for cases where the Issuer and Resource are the same entity, and these make a big difference.1
